Roadless Impact study
#1
I went to meeting with a Forest Service worker who is much higher than just a peon. He is against the presidents roadless iniative, he rides an ATV and likes to to hunt. Anyway, he informed us that if we who enjoy the outdoors and like to recreate with our ATV's or motorcycles that we could delay this thing by requesting copies of the Draft Enviromental Impact Statement (DEIS). The DEIS is available from the net but it is in excess of 1000 pages and doesn't delay anything. It it also available on CD, but this again doesn't represent a cost or time feature. So what we need is for all ATVers and friends of ATVers to request a printed copy of the DEIS. It doesn't matter whether your state is affected or not, It may in the future. Who knows, someday you may wish to ride the Rockies or go to a secret trout fishing spot in Montana. Without your help this may not be possible in the not too distant future. It could also give the Greenies an opening for closing down the riding areas in the east also, in such places ans Va, Me, or other states that have National forests. Below is a copy of the form that will get you the DEIS. It will only cost the price of a postage stamp. It that too much to pay for a delay and possible end to this land grab by the present administration? To copy the form all you'll need to do is hilite it, press control C open up notepad in windows and then press control V to paste it in notepad. Or you can just type it out. Make copies and pass them on to your friends, spread the word, THIS IS A FIGHT WE COULD VERY WELL LOSE..

Dear Sir or Madam
Please send me a printed copy of the DEIS for the Roadless Area Conservation Plan that was released on Tuesday May 9, 2000. I would like a copy of the Executive Summary and the Full Report - including all maps and summaries.

It's truly a shame that several thousand people use this forum and only 62 people have looked at this important subject. I also posted on the Brand forums to see this post ,but the moderator deleted them. I guess he doesn't care either.

Keep the faith minehunter, I have been to various state meetings and it seems that only the lawyers get their way.
If the greenies lose a ruling, They sue! Not excepting the fact that what they are trying to get done is not what the majority of the public wants.
It seems (sadly) the only way to stop it is to counter sue! And Lobby hard! Then perhaps nothing would get done. Hmmmmmm?

minehunter,
unfortunately, you are dead on about the administrators of this site. i have made several suggestions on how they might use these forums to promote pro-atv legislation and fight the powers that wouls oppose our sport. all of these requests have fallen on deaf ears. i feel they just don't know any better, though...
it does seem to me sometimes us atver's would much rather talk about who made the fastest quad in 1986 than how we can ensure we have enough support to carry this sport into the future. i attended the public comment meeting here in michigan and it went well. however, the sierra club and any number of other organizations was there too. as far as being organized, we are outnumbered my friend...

they delete postes proceting our sport, but keep worthless ones. I will not repete the one i just read in the honda form because i was young once too and it it is nice to have new people but please dont delete ones spreading the word!
Yep, there is no hope unless every Hunting, Sled, Dirtbike, 4X4, ATV, MT Bike, Personal watercraft, Logging, and exploring group joins up together with eveyone else to fight. Blue Ribbon is the best bet. I have talked to many people up rideing and said something about Al Gore and 99% of them were shocked that he was agenst rideing! I also have gone to the Roadless meetings and made it clear that the majority of the public would like to have roads to use them for Multi uses. Such as fire, plane crash (it would be nice to be rescued) wildlife watching, hikeing, Hunting, insect contol ect. But I was outnumbered by greenies 100:1. I once took part in a search for a lost hiker (never found) and was told that I cannot use my ATV becasue the trails and roads where inside a "wilderness" area. Guess trees and ferns are more inportant than human life already
