San Bernardino Mountains
Yesterday, I went for a mountain bike ride around the Miller Canyon loop. This area has been closed indefinitely because of the recent fires. Signs posted at the entrance say "Road Unsafe For Travel". I wanted to see for myself the damage. What I found was that Miller Canyon DID NOT burn, nor did anything around the Pinnacles staging area, or 2N17X. So what exactly us unsafe about the road? The USFS has closed down huge sections of the forest that were unaffected by the fire. If anybody has a rational explanation for this, I would like to hear it. As it is, I'll be doing some letter writing. This is totally unacceptable.

Government agencies love to close stuff, because it is easier to close an area than to manage it!
Wilderness is the most extreme example of this principle. You can only go there on foot or horseback, so that cuts out 98% of the potential users, right there. No users, means nothing to manage, and no work for the government agency.
