If you read the article closely, they are only enforcing the rules that currently exist. They don't want people making their own trails or riding on closed trails.
We are at a critical time in TN. We are about 2 years away from a comprehensive state-wide OHV policy. Some of the state forests are over-used and the state is responding the only way they can.
After this last legislative session, we know the state doesn't have much money (at least that's what they tell us) so they are not willing to spend more to police an area. So they do the easiest thing and close it. In the other state forests, they have announced that they will enforce the existing rules.
Several groups, including VSTA and Southern 4-Wheel Drive, are working with TWRA to create a sustainable program to provide OHVs with an opportunity to enjoy state land while still maintaining the environment.
Things are changing in Tennessee. The days of Rednecks on 4 wheelers with a Bud and a chainsaw are coming to a close. If we want to continue enjoying the land that belongs to the people of the state of Tennessee, we'll have to quit acting like it belongs to only us.
If you care about riding in TN, then you need to help support the organizations that are fighting for our rights, namely: Volunteer State Trailriders Association www.VSTArider.com
Sorry to preach, but we need to work with the folks, not against them. Your friends care about you more than your enemies!
