I am sure you come across many trails where others have left more than just a beer can or something else. I have seen trails that the 3 - 55 gallon trash bag that we carry aren't enough to make a dent in the trash that people leave behind. I pledge that All Of those whom ride trails carry trash bags to clean up from those who wish to NOT care and take away our recreational time on the trails. Then carry a camera to actually catch some of those people in action to display their pictures on "The Trail of Shame" sections containing pictures of people who leave garbage THEY BROUGHT to leave in our forest for us good people to pick up.
Any takers in this pledge?

I always have my camera with me when riding and would not have a problem taking pictures of someone leaving trash behind if I could catch them.
I really think the worst litter bugs are the locals.

as far as public lands go, i wished the park rangers would be more visible and when they do "bust" the litter bugs, make it stick, in the pocket book. then keep a tally, make it stick double, for the next time for the same offender. compounded penalties. maybe the NPS should start using hunter cams, nah, too much big brother watching, eh?

Well it would be nice to see more Forest Employees Presents to catch more of the litter bugs but we all know that will not happen due to budget cuts and many other factors. Just some tid bit info......a picture catches a person in the act.....USFS LEO will use that picture and get to them soon enough. Even better to have a name to go with it when you introduce your self and they return the gesture......hince their name......vehicle tag much better. I do it all the time. People even ask if they can get a copy of the picture for them selves. I say sure.....give me your e-mail address and I send it to you. this is even more info to nab them easier.
I have even told people they can get a copy of the picture from the Trail of Shame site. They look at me funny.....like they have no idea what I just said to them.
Use common sense when doing any of this......be their buddy so to speak......act as they do.......this keeps YOU from getting into a bad situation when on a trail and very out numbered. I do it all the time. It is so much fun then......really.

USFS Law Enforcement Officers are usually around more populated areas. Camp Grounds, Camp sites, Visitor areas, intersections to common areas, and the restaurants near the forest. ( Just kidding on that one......or am I.?) National Parks have "Forest Rangers" that do have the ability to enforce the Parks Laws and those from USFS. Forest Workers are just that......out in the woods.....cleaning up areas.....cutting down perfectly good trees for no reason what so ever......clearing rough roads....and so on.
Now don't get me wrong about this....... I do have friends that are employees of USFS -USDA - BLM. But just like that old phrase....." 5 employees on a job and only ONE actually working" is still actually occurring. USFS LEO's are a different bread for sure. I have found some that just put other LEO to shame as to the type of attitude they have when approaching a person or the way they treat a person. I guess no different than big city LEO.
We.......The People.......Land Owners of the U. S. A., Forest have an obligation to protect Our Lands as if they are our own back yards. Not saying we need to carry a big gun or any thing (or do we?) but we need to care for these lands better than our own back yards. We can make a difference too. Use that camera, don't be bashful......do what is necessary to preserve our rights to recreate responsibly in our own forest.
I am a strong Advocate of saving ATV/OHV Trails in America and spend a great deal of time being involved in many aspects of doing so.
So..... the next time YOU visit a National Forest, National Park, or just our Forest.......ask your self this........"What can I do to help clean and protect what I would like for my grandchildren children to be able to enjoy for their recreation in our great land."................>THEN DO IT!<

It's obviously apparent that many individuals were not raised to show respect for others or our environment. The amount of trash left behind by other so called fellow riders is appauling. " THEY ARE NOT ONE OF MY FELLOW RIDERS " We were out a month ago and could not believe the amount of trash. If you have room to take it in, you have room to take it out! We had decided when we finished that day, we were going back to clean up. It wasn't our trash, but if someone didn't do it, it wasn't going to be our place to ride. We towed in a couple of small trailers with trash cans strapped to them and brought out 6, 30 gallon cans full of crap. Planning another trip in a couple of weeks to do the same. All of us need to take responsibility for others irresponsibilty. Bitching and complaining about it dosen't do a Damn thing for saving our trails.

Sure one would think that it was so easy to bring all your stuff with you on the trails, but then why is it so HARD to take the same stuff you have used back out? Do People really live that way at their home?
What neighborhood are they in? So I stay out of it. Just like they should stay out of the forest if all they can do is trash it for others to care for. Dam!
Yes it really gets my goat so to speak. I am one of those who are NOT bashful......I WILL take pictures of those in action.......no one likes it when that happens and they most of the time clean up some.
So......we all know to well that most of us will have to continue to Pick Up after those lazy People.
It is worth it to me........I keep the trails clean and still use them. It is too bad for those who trash it and get their pictures taken and see them on Trail of Shame.....All Over! (like their trash)
