The website to place your comments concerning the roadless initiative is:

http://www.fs.fed.us/news/roads/public.shtml

Below is a sample response you can cut/copy/edit/past to your liking.
Put your name and address at the bottom.
Have your friends and family send responses also.
Do it before it is too late.

========
I was just reviewing your website on the Roadless Initiative. I don't have any objection to the
discontinuation of maintenance of the designated roads within the National Forests as long as
access to these areas are not restricted for those with the means to travel the unimproved roads by 4-wheel drive, ATV,snowmobile, motorcycle, mountain bikes, etc. is allowed.

The public lands are intended for the public's use. I am opposed to restricted access to these lands.

Again, I do not support President Clinton's Roadless proposal. Please carefully consider the following:

1) OHV users are protecting the environment by promoting user ethics as outlined by groups and organizations such as; Tread Lightly!, the Blue
Ribbon Coalition, United Four Wheel Drive Associations, American Council of
Snowmobile Associations, National Off Highway Vehicle Conservation Council,
and the American Motorcyclist Association and other groups as well.

2) OHV users contribute thousands of man/woman hours each year on volunteer
programs that protect and preserve our natural resources.

3) OHV users support managed recreational opportunities on Forest Service
lands.

4) While most OHV users support the original intent of the 1964 Wilderness
Act to protect lands trammeled by modern man, the lands currently available
for multiple-use must be managed and remain open for the general public to
use and enjoy for a wide variety of opportunities.

5) OHV users do not support the Presidents roadless directive that could
CLOSE millions of acres of prime multiple-use recreation areas that have
established and legal recreational roads, trails, and dispersed campgrounds.

6) Please ask for funds to adequately support the Forest Services recreation
and trail programs. For many years the Forest Service has said they support
recreation but they have NOT asked for the appropriated moneys to do so.

7) If congress cannot afford to support the trails program, please do not
close the existing roads and trails. Mark them for multiple off road use
(Horseback, motorcycle, ATV, 4 wheel drive vehicle, snowmobile, mountain
bike) and leave them open for the public to enjoy. Some of us actually like
to drive on roads which have not been maintained.

Sent mine! It would be great if we could get everyone to respond. Very few readers even look at this forum. I've tried to get ATV connection to call more attention to these issues without any response. If you go to off-road.com their site has lots of information for it's readers and it has links to polls and email letters we can send.
