It is somehow seen as being safer to give a country that hates us nuclear weapons than me keeping my guns to defend myself from them.

No, just no. Not having liability doesn't stop car accidents, and will do nothing to curb gun violence. It will only serve to limit lower and fixed income LAW ABIDING people from having guns. I think of my parents in this case. Older, fixed income, health issues, they would not be able to afford a policy I am afraid. Should they lose the ability to defend themselves? Or to even hunt, which dad loves?

As with cars, premiums would be low for law abiding citizens, especially older citizens with one or two guns. A young male with multiple semi-automatic guns would pay a high premium. If your gun is stolen and used in a crime, insurance covers your liability. If you accidentally shoot a hole in your neighbors house while cleaning your gun, insurance covers your liability.

When I lived in Brighton, MA (part of Boston) I took the train into Boston Center to go to the police station that decided who could and who couldn't get a gun. Talked to an officer on the beat and asked him how to get to that station. He asked why I wanted to go over there. I explained I wanted to get my pistol permit. He laughed and said good luck basically. I said the following: "You know what bothers me? I can take $1000 and go into Dorchester (a not so nice part of Boston) and with a weeks worth of asking around get any firearm I wanted." He said, "Yes, you could." I said, "So, because I'm law abiding and will do what the law says, I won't get the permit?" He said, "Yup." He didn't like the situation either.
Moral of story. Leave the law abiding people alone and let us be able to defend ourselves, not only from criminals, but from overreaching government if that day should come.

Then the next step would be to have all ammunition boxes and individual bullet cases to have serial numbers that you have to sign for so they can track it. You give into one demand such as "liability insurance",then the liberals will always add more restraints and constantly attack around the edges of the second amendment even though they can't directly attack it head on. Don't even give them any extra ideas, they have enough ideas of their own already to throw at law abiding citizens if they can get legislation passed for them. Our founding fathers already warned us about that several times about giving away freedoms. This would just be another way of chipping away at them.
