To skid plate or not to skid plate, that is the question.

Currently I do not have a rear skid plate on my Leager swingarm. But I would like some protection, since a new rotor will cost another $110. While I worry about the rotor, I also worry about the powdercoating on the swingarm. I just had it done and do not want the finish ruined from dragging in the sand/dirt during a race. But if I go with a full skid plate, then I run the risk of getting high sided in the ruts.
Leager makes a rotor only skid plate. While this will save the rotor from rocks during a race, but I wonder about the swingarm finish.
What does everyone else use for protection during a race, or just out practicing?
How well will the powdercoating hold up being dragged across the sandy ruts?
If the powdercoating will hold up fine, I might just get the rotor only skid plate for racing and then get a full skid plate for regular riding. This appears to be the best answer, and the most expensive. What do you guys think?
