Default ATV Searth And Rescue ??

I am in the process of getting an ATV Search and Rescue group together.
Does anyone know of one already in existence?

According to the State Troopers, we don’t have one up here in South-Central Alaska.

I really don’t want to ‘re-invent the wheel’. So I was hoping I could take some existing ideas from an existing ATV Search and Rescue group.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Contact Rob Birkenshaw who runs the web site listed below, he may be able to help. He sends out the notifications around here, Salt Lake City, UT for ATV search and rescue. Last call I got I went out and helped search for Elizabeth Smart. It's a worth while cause.

Good luck and I am sure allot of people will appreciate what you are doing.

Default ATV Searth And Rescue ??

There is a unit in Moab. Once when I was out there, they were searching for a lost mountain biker in the middle of the night. They thought we were it, but we were just out (on the mountain bikes) for a little moonlight ride.

I would contact the county sherrif for info????

Try these guys. They are a pretty good SAR unit and have a good training program. They are in Pierce County, WA.

Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier. Check www.washoesar.com, and navigate to the Specialized Vehicle Unit link. I am the secretary of this unit, which has over 30 ATV certified members. If you need information, email me through the email link on that particular page.

Good to hear from another sourdough.

I live in the Mat-Valley. In fact the name of our Team is Mat-SAR (Mat-Valley ATV Search And Rescue).

According to the Trooper in charge of state-wide SAR operations, there is no team organized specifically for ATV SAR activities.

That is not to say that there are no other Teams that don't have a few guys that use their machines to do summer searches.

We are always interested in learning from others.

We certainly don't want to re-invent the wheel.

Any information that could help, from any source, would be appreciated.

Thanks again.

It seems like we are talking about two different things.

The closest thing to what you describe in our neck of the woods is the 'Peace Officer' of the Chickaloon Indian Tribe.

He patrols their land and tries handing out citations for trespassing, etc.

That is not at all what we are about.

We are solely interested in finding lost people in the warmer months.

We are made up of woodsmen who use our skills and equipment in an organized fashion to assist the State Troopers for Search And Rescue.

We are not interested in handing out tickets or doing substance abuse testing.
