Default what's in the toolbox???

I have a chain in the back of mine wherever I go, even if it's to the mailbox and back. Tire repair kit, flashlight, pocket knife, and plenty of extra gas.

The thing I like most about these posts is when you see something on someone elses list that they are carrying and you should be carrying and never thought of. We have room for a little more but not much. Forgot the extra spark plug and those little plastic clips Honda uses on their fenders. Now that the weather has chaged, we add on our Koplin bag to the front and carry heavier coats and medium coats. In the trunk we also carry heavy winter gloves, mittens, and warm stocking caps with face masks. (I have often wondered why a weld broke on our rear rack?)

Most of this stuff we have never used and hopefully never will. My wife and I ride allot by ourselves and want to be prepared. We have on a couple of occassions given first aid supplies to other people on the trails who have been less fortunate and not prepared. One time a guy busted through the ice and he appreciated the dry wool socks and space blanket. I think he enjoyed the warm fire too.

The fire extinguishers are like aerosol cans and don't take up much room. We carry two of those.

Have fun.

The guys I ride with, when we take trips and discuss what to bring, always tell me; (they ride Polaris's) "you bring the tow rope and we'll bring the tools." They think that just about covers everything.

Leather gloves and more often than not, a flannel lined barn coat, are in my gear too - just not listed. To me, a good pair of leather work gloves is critical unless the ONLY thing you're doing is riding an even then they can save your bacon.

Over at the ranch last June (mile high Nevada desert) we were about 15~16 miles out when I realized the backs of my hands and wrists were already sunburned and on the verge of blistering - serious blistering. To make things worse, before we left, I had put sun block on my nose, ears, neck etc, (the head areas) but NOT on the backs of my hands and wrists and then handed the sun block over to my partner who applied some to himself and then left the sunblock back at the ranch. The leather work gloves in my kit saved me from some serious sunburn. As a bred and born southerner who spent the first 40 years of my life in the great southern outdoors, I can promise you:"You ain't seen nothin" compared to how fact the desert can kill you. The little things can become critically serious real fast.

Be Prepared!
