Battery tender because it charges the battery and then uses a special circuitry to maintain the charge by constantly charging at a very small current.Standard chargers can't charge at very small currents so they cycle on and off at higher currents causing battery life to be shorter.

Check with your local hobby shop that deals in R/C cars or planes. They'll have an assortment of battery tenders that will suit your needs perfectly and priced anywhere from $10 to a couple hundred ea. I have a 500 mah. capacity tender that is ideal and cost was about $16.
