when I took off my front sprocket, I noticed some oil on the shaft. There was only a little, and it was thick, not runny or very fresh. Could this be a problem? Thanks

Maybe chain lube? Install your new sprocket and check the oil level and keep a close eye on it.

What do I need to do to replace the seal?
Do I need to remove the engine? Swingarm?
I just want a rough summary to see if I could do it myself.
Thanks again.

Eighthmercury,

1. It doesn't sound like the seal needs replacement, necessarily. I agree with the previous poster. Put the sprocket and chain on. Tension it and lube it correctly. Check the fluid level in the gearbox. Keep an eye on the fluid level for the next while. If it doesn't move, ride, ride, ride.

2. Besides, you have given us no idea what you ride so it is hard to comment on repairs.

Assemble it, watch it, ride it.
