When I ride hard my *** dont touch the seat just like on a dirt bike you have more control.Lets see some nut try to climb hills sitting on the seat.

I don't know that I would go so far to call standing while riding dangerous. I would say that standing is usually not the optimal position for riding though. In my opinion, (albeit only six months of riding) weight transfer, center of gravity and the quad's inertia are the primary factors you have to consider.

Weight transfer,
When hill climbing, positioning your body towards/over the front of the quad is very important. Depending on the steepness of the hill/dune it may require you to stand as you climb the hill or to keep you from going over if you get stuck or in a bind. By no means, should you always stay on the seat either, your legs will help you position and absorb the whoops, jumps etc. "getting off the seat" is very helpful.

Center of Gravity and the Quad's inertia,
By standing up you affect the center of gravity. In an aggressive corner or sudden stop, the quad may not handle as well with the weight distributed vertically and roll over or endo. As far as the rider is concerned, more strength and or balance would be required to maintain your position on the quad.

Did I mention, if you are trail riding you stand the best chance of getting clotheslined. ha

I hope this wasn't a totally useless post.

You can take a FREE safety course. See your dealer.

Standing up is the perfect position to be in! Look at those freestyle jumpers and MX riders riding all day in the "attack" position (standing with your rear hung way out the back). The pegs on the bike are positioned to be right at the balance point of the bike. By standing up, you place your weight in the MOST NEUTRAL AND PERFECT POSITION POSSIBLE! That's dangerous???

I would be dead a thousand times over if I didn't stand up through the whoops. I would get bucked off on the first one! I would stand up all day, if I could take it. ONLY SIT WHEN YOU NEED TO REST!!

evidently, different people have various conceptions of the word "standing".

1 a : to support oneself on the feet in an erect position b : to be a specified height when fully erect <stands six feet two> c : to rise to an erect position

Redcondor, if your meaning of standing is "in the attack or crouched position, legs bent /rear off the seat" then yes that is an ideal position for aggressive riding. If you use the word standing in a literal sense, then it is not.

Either way, take a safety course, ride hard and in a manner that best suits you.

Standing is a perfectly acceptable riding posture when conditions warrant it.
Standing while leaning forward is the best hill climbing technique. It lowers
the bike/rider combos center of gravity (because all your weight is lower,
on the footpegs) and shifts it forward. Partially standing (just enough to
get your butt off the seat) is the best way to take bumpy terrain, and aids
in cornering, as it is easier to shift your weight left and right as the corner
dictates.

I probably ride 50% of the time off the seat.

Also, on an off-camber, standing with all your weight on the uphill peg will help keep your bike rubber side down.

Good point about lowering your center of gravity! By standing, you are transfering the weight from the top of the bike to the bottom, so it is going to be more stable.

Not to mention that standing helps you navigate through the dunes or trails a bit more safely. It also is a nice change while riding. You can sit on most quads and be very comfy......but it still feels good to use your legs
