the law can only do so much. when people cut your fences to get on your property and tear it up they also let your cattle out if you have any . if my cows get out and get hit by a car because someone cut my fence guess who gets sued, me! i have caught riders on my land tearing up my hay meadows that i reley on to produce hay to feed my cattle. i have caught them chasing my cattle and have caught them sneaking on my land to hunt. i had one pull a gun on me when i caught him in my deer stand, i just backed off and once i got to my truck i emptied his gas tank on his four wheeler from 500 yards. i got a warning for that and he got a slap on the hand for traspassing and pulling a gun on me while in my stand! i deal with them from a distance now, about 500 yards ands when i'm asked who shot their atv i don't know but i ask what were they doing on my land.

Damn 500 yards that pretty good, I'll make sure I wear a bullet proof vest next time I go riding around you guys. Just kidding. Yeah that's the other scary thing is if you shoot at them to get off your property they may shoot back and more than likely you'll be the one in hot water not them for tresspassing. So you kind of have to weigh things out.

hey fufighter, we wouldn't tear up your land, we don't do that. we get permission to ride on land before we do usually and if we don't get written permission, we just ride and wave to the owner and don't be disrespectful and rude, thank you Email me your thoughts

I really doubt you get any kind permission from a land owner cause if you get hurt on his land he could be held liable, and I don't know any land owner who would allow kids to come and do doughnuts on there land and tear it up, the only way I'd see anyone allowing anyone on there land is if you know them. Also guys like KWACKER are usually the crybabies that have nowhere to ride and start to trespass on peoples hard earned land so don't give me this B.S. about getting written permission!!! I belong to an ATV club I pay my dues and work on the trails we lease, what I bring in I take out and more with me! The way I see it, if you can afford one of these (atv's) then you can afford paying to ride!!! Nothing in life is free!!!

It's Time for my 2cents on this one. Nobody's a saint and Ill say I have to admit i have ridden/do ride on some land without protection but not without respect. For example. there is no public or private land put aside for riding 4 wheelers in the whole state of CT. I am fortunate that my friend owns 500+ acres about 2 miles up the road. We cant ride quads on the road and right between us is this great land owned by Flanders nature center. They collect land around the areas to keep it from being developed like all the NYC people coming in try to do. Now i dont have permission and they dont allow quads but I have been riding through the same single trail i made when i was 10 (now im 18) and never seen people there more than 2 or 3 times and usually they are walking on my trail and they wave and smile as i go by, because I slow down and wave. There was a guy near me who had a swampy river area which was in the middle of the woods at the edge of his property. It had been owned by somebody else and I had been riding on it for years because through it i could get to a corn field which abutted a large quarry I ride in and a big trail system of land owned by O&G (dont have permission but nobody uses the land and its just land they havent taken minerals out of yet). this Ahole bought a 5 acre corn field just so he could call the cops on me and stop me from riding in all the other land. then he went out and bought a quad. I guess its his right but both sides can be A holes. So im no saint but I agree having respect is somthing that most of the youth of america (my generation) lacks. Another problem is your generation who have kids of mine and go suing anybody because they lack any concept of personal responsibility. It makes me sick. There lack of personal responsibility slowly continues to take away OUR personal freedom. Hope this is a bit of a hope that not all the youth out there is mindless and downright retarted like those two in this fourm earlier.

Good luck i hope you shoot the bastards

i left a reply last friday about this subject well sunday i had 8 of my cows on a highway. the highway patrol called me to let me know because he knows me and knew they were mine. i was lucky nobody hit one. a cow can do a lot of damage to a car and one of them was a bull that is close to 2000lbs. if someone had hit him at 70mph it would have totaled their car and either hurt or killed the people in the car and i would have been the one in trouble. i found where the fence was down and guess what was there. atv tracks. i drove around that part of my pasture and found where someone had built a fire and left about two cases of empty beer cans and an empty jack bottle. i looked around some more and found where they had stashed two thirty packs under some brush. i'm pretty sure this was minors since they stashed their beer but have no idea who. i did put some cameras up with motion sensors so when they come back i will get their pictures and this time i am pressing charges for traspassing, destruction of private property, minors in possesion and any thing else i can make stick. the dps said he would help because he knows of the problem and has had someone cut his fence twice. this may make me sound like an a##hole but i'm tired of it! my cows are part of my income and i rely on them to help provide for me and my family. i worked hard to buy my land and am still paying for it for another 15 years and not for someone to just come on it and use it the way they want. when cold weather hits i need the hay from the pasture to feed my cows or i have to buy it from someone and enough hay for 130 head of cattle adds up. i also don't want people starting fires on my property. it is very drie right now and if one gets out it will wipe out a lot of my forest that my cows need in cold weather to stay out of the rain and sleet and also screw up my hunting areas and grass. i have several stock ponds that i have never turned anyone down from fishing in if they asked first and i let just about anyone ride on my land if they follow MY rules. the only rules i have is don't cut any trees down, stay out of my hay medows, DON'T chase my cows, no beer, if they bring something in then take it out and no fires unless they ask me first so i will know where they are and can make sure they put them out good after they leave. if this is unfair than tuff sh#t, it's my land and i make the payments and pay the taxes. i have a little over 300 acres but that gives nobody the right to help themself to it! to top it off there are four riding parks within 50 miles of us and it only cost $20 for a person to ride from friday after 12 noon till sunday evening. all of them have several hundred acres and have some really good riding, anything from deep mud, sand, trails, hills, drag strips, mud bog pits and one even has two motocross tracks so why can't they ride there? if people will ask and agree to follow my rules i will still let them ride on my property but if they just come on it then i will be out to ruin their year! thinking about find a mean bull or two and a few more pit bulls.
