the little sh!#s got busted! my cameras payed off and caught three young boys on my land with a fire going and drunk off their now blistered little butts. they cut my fence again and came onto my land sunday morning after all the rain. one of the cameras i set up took 15 pics of them cutting down some small trees and building themselves a fire and also drinking and turns out they even smoked a little weed. when i called my buddy with the state hwy patrol he came over and made a copy of the disk and we went out to the site so he could look around. he found a half a thirty pack and some weed stashed in some bushes. he took pictures of the trees they cut down and where they had the fire. he also took pictures of the fence they cut and the tracks they left when they entered and also the part of my hay medow they tore up. we even found tracks where they had been chasing my cows. the good thing is the camera got perfect pictures of their faces and we knew three of the four boys. the officer went to their houses and escorted the boys and their parents to the police station. i didn't press charges like i had planned because i really felt for the parents. i know two of the familys fairly good and they are good people and their sons were doing this without them knowing. one of them offered to give me thier sons fairly new raptor but i couldn't do that to them. the two families i know pretty good are selling the boys atvs, they were 14 and 15 years old and the other family that i have only heard of is selling their 16 year old sons yfz450 and his new superduty truck ans his butt is back to riding the school bus. the police did press charges for minors in possesion of beer but did not press any for the grass. they got off lucky. now i have to put up with my DPS friend calling me a wus for not trowing everything at them. i couldn't do it to the parents though, one of the boys got his butt tore up in the parking lot at the station in front of the cops. they were cool and let the parents do their job. hopefully this will be the last of that problem. also when the boys were asked why they did it all they could say was i dont know. bet they know why they shouldn't do it now.

we've had a similar problem to texaspsyco these people on their quads come and ride on our trails so we set up a small fence so that the quads couldnt drive thruogt the trail and we went back to the trail a few days later and the fence was GONE, we build up a wooden fence about 2ft tall and they drive over taht, its not so much them riding on our land but they dont ask, if people want to ride they should tell us, it annoys me a little. although i do agree that the size limits are incorecct for kids, i'm 14 and ride a big bear 400 fine, but i respect where i ride, other kids should too, some people are idiots (no offence)

Tex, glad to hear the good news. Sounds like you had a tough decision to press charges or not.

i wanted to press charges bad but the parents were honestly sorry for their kids behavior and i know the kids were going to be punished pretty good. like i said one of them didn't even make it to the car before his butt was getting tore up, right in front of the police station and anyone who drove by! almost felt sorry for the boy when his dad pulled his belt off and went to work but wasn't real sorry. one of the atvs is setting one families yard today with a for sale sign on it along with the boys new truck. i would have pressed charges but i have kids to and even though i never listened when my parents told me what i was putting them through i know now. you love your kids to death but sometimes you just want to tear their butts up when they go off and do something stupid. and i know the parents are ashamed because they feel they did something wrong in raising the kids. i've been through it but you can't keep them from getting into trouble sometimes, just hope mine never get into much trouble.

I have followed this thread and I have some questions for the young riders who feel they can ride were they want. Did you buy your bike and when I ask this I am asking the less then 17 year old group as you can tell by how and what they post and I do not mean did you go with your parents to pick it up. The reason is this if you actually did pay for this bike with your own sweat and money which is doubtful as most kids do not have have the income resources, I know up here that would not be the case as there is plenty of these kids running around with this cash after fishing season closes. Now back to the question how would you feel if somebody came over and trashed your quad and then burned it, now remember this is the quad you saved up for and the cops come out and say they can not do anything about it. Unless it was your parents money and they can always get more right? Afterall it is yout right that they buy you what you want and you will do what you want with it and trash the neighbors property afterall they don't use all of it as someone posted. Its time for you kids to grow up and learn to respect everyone else and their property, using the line that their is no legal area to ride so you have to trespass is horses@#t, you should of thought of that prior to buying a quad. Trailer it to were you can ride legaly, unless you feel that since you have no where to ride you are just going to make everyone else pay the same price. Using the excuse of I was only joking does not cut it, your true intentions came out the first time. For the parents out there who are or have bought their kids quads or dirtbikes do you let them behave like this, I am betting not. One major problem is parents give their spoiled brats a toy and say go have fun without knowing what they are doing and act all supprised when the cops bring them home, ride repsonsibly or don't ride at all. Period. End of class!!! AlaskaBoy.

They will never take away the riding areas, they can try, just like with this "concieled weapon" thing going on in wisconsin, it was illegal now they are voting right as i write this message on whether conceiled weapons can be carried or not, that was off topic, but there are way to many people that like atv's, and for that matter people in the whole nation, should have no problem with this, just stop worring about the law changing, but just be carefull because the liberals are always tring to get everything!!!! thats their problem

stop fighting ladies

It is legal now to carry concealed in Alaska without a permit but unfortunatly it is a joke, allowing people to carry without a permit is asking for trouble. If you take the class to get a permit which you still need if you want to carry out side of the state you will find out the laws are stacked against you as a legal gun owner. It is to the point were I do not carry my weapon with me unless I am going to the great outdoors because the criminals have more rights than I do. As for not being able to take away rideing areas you must be blind, it starts with the shut down of federal lands first then the feds threaten the states of holding back their precious fed dollars unless the ban atvs on state lands. This is how it works, why because sadly as a group we are lazy and uninformed and don't VOTE!!!! I am sick of hearing people complaining how this happened or that and then I asked if they had gone down to vote against banning something and they tell me their vote does not count, WRONG, get informed, get involved, it is not to late. There is pressure across the nation and the noose is closing, private rideing parks close all the time because of the pressure put on them about noise, poluted water runoff, drinking and whatever else and do not forget the riseing insurance costs to run these areas. We do not have to pay to play up here but because of the few they {govt} is starting to talk about the excessive trails that run everywhere off the road system and it is going unchecked. We need to establish trails and get them registerd as trails but that would take work and nobody wants to bother because it will never happen up here, afterall this is the Last Frontier and we have the the wild west additude when it comes to doing what we want. 5 years from now what will it be like? Respect others and Respect the Earth and we will have chance.AlaskaBoy.
