Default Pet Peeve!! Leaky Gas Cans

I have about 6 gas cans and every blasted one of them leak around the spout!!( These are all fairly new cans)
Other than the expensive metal cans does anybody know a good trick to leak-proof my cans? A funnel will work,
however I need 3 hands, 2 for the can, 1 to hold the funnel. Any suggestions?

inspect the can at the spout for pieces of plastic(that shouldnt be there) left over from the molding process and file them smooth. also inspect the cap for the same.

just be sure you are getting a good seal on your cap contacts

i am going to be installing a 30 gallon fuel cell and gas pump in my tralier soon to get rid of the darn gas cans for good

The new "ventless" are the worst. They might be fine in the garage, but move them and gas all over. Or even an increase in temperature seems to cause them to leak around the filler.

Do you have the ones with the pull out spout? They suck I would buy one with a fixed spout.

I agree the pull-out spouts are the worst! I ended up going to Home Depot (or as my daughter calls it, The MAN Store) and buying a large round rubber washer and cutting it to fit and voila' problem fixed!
I do like Bing's idea though, maybe I'll do that when I can afford to get another quad.

We have used apoxy, which is like a cement-glue type stuff on gas cans and it seems to work great. I'm not sure where you can buy it though, my dad gets it from where he works. We also put it on the bottom of our boat after we hit a rock and gouged(sp?) a hole in the fiberglass. That was over 5 years ago and its still holding up like new.

If you epoxy the spout how do you fill it?

My gas cans don't leak if I'm filling something outside. As soon as I try to fill something inside the garage, they leak all over me and whatever I'm putting gas into.

I read the original post wrong.

If you mean that its leaking around where you screw the spout in, try using an o-ring around the base of the spout.
