Boomer, buy placing the meter stick next to the wheel, and rolling the wheel one revolution, you measure how far the wheel traveled in one revolution which = the circumference.

Hard to believe all of the trouble with the bicycle speedometers. My 2000 400EX has a speedometer on it. The magnet is mounted to the front brake rotor, the pick-up is tie wrapped to the spindle. It works great, I calibrated it by comparing speeds with my 450ES. The faster you go the taller the front tire gets on the 400EX, so it isn't linear.
I just took a few pictures of mine and put them on my homepage for you to see.

I think I got the pictures loading now. I will take a few more tomorrow with the tire removed so you can see even better.

Thanks, but don't do that just for me.... I got mine working tonight. I had to put a stronger magnet on, what a chore. I had to make a U shapped bracket and bond the magnet to it and bolt it to the inside of the rotor, and make it small enough to clear to pads. Now I did the circumference measurement, and imput it. But it seems to read fast. Someone said the tire circumference get bigger as you go faster, thats smart, I wouldn't have thought of that. Anyway I've got to get someone to pase me. I didn't start this thread, but I thank all'ya'all.

And Kirk I just visited your site...very good!!

I like the thing that follows your mouse around.
Your a talented person doing all those things to your quad, top headlight switch turn off, winch remote(very awsome), spedometer.

How much did you pay for your web-site if you don't mind me asking???
because I have a couple web-sites still under construction and their a pain to get working.

Thanks ATV_MAN.
The website is free. It is hosted at http://www.tripod.com . I use front page express and a little html. Their web space is 10 megabytes, and pretty easy to use.
In the future I plan to add a few of the things I have done to my quads in detail.

I have a site with Freeservers and whenever I log-in to work on my site the page says "The page cannot be displayed" so I don't know what's going on.

I think I'm going tonight to pick up a bike spedometer. (cheap one)
I'll try to get it working by tomorrow afternoon(hopefully)
Thanks for your replys guys and I'll tell you if I got it working or not.
