Do you guys think one of those bycicle spedometers would be good to put on an atv???
I would have to mout the sensor on 1 of the tire rims, then put the thing that reads the sensor on the suspention somehow.
And do you think it would work on the front or back the best??

I just tryed to do this, I put it on the front, cause if its on the back, you could only read it when your sure your wheel arn't spinning. Anyway, after a couple of hours of making brakets and figuring it out, it dosen't work. I don't know if the magnet isnt tripping the sensor, of the wiring is bad or what. But I'm still working on it. Good luck to you.

Thanks BLH,
But the one you have is probably more expensive than a plain bike spedometer.(what I want)
It should be allright because their water proof right?
Their like around $20 for one, wich is pretty good.

I tried to put my $20 trek speedo on my wolverine, with not so good results "yet".
I'm sure it will work, I just think I haven't got the spacing and alignment of the magnet to the sensor quite right yet.

I could be wrong but it gave me a max speed of 462.5mph! (maybe I should go race a Banshee or even a Porsche)

On the serious side, on my speedo you have to input the circumference of the wheel.
I did this by laying a meter stick (you have to measure this, at least on mine, in millimeters) next to the wheel.
Then I placed a mark on the side of the tire in the middle of it's footprint and aligned the mark with the 0 mark on the meter stick.
You then roll the quad until the wheel makes one complete revolution, and record the # that the mark on the tire is next to.

Of course this is the same way I did mine and it didn't work, so you can take my advice for what it's worth.

I used to have one on my 300ex, I wired it to the rear wheels. I put the magnet on the sprocket and the sending unit right near it. I had to extend the wire though. I was pretty accurate, but the magnet fell off, so off it came.

I thought about putting on my sproket...it could very well work.
But I have to test first to see what will work best.

Just to make sure..when you measured the circumference, how did you do it with a meter stick? How could you bent it around the wheel. I thought the circumference was the total distance around the circle..in our case wheel. Maybe thats why your not getting the proper reading. I may be wrong on this though...i am no mathamagician. <----- that was on purpose guys.
