Diesel HELP- ANY Diesel Guro
I got a 83 F-250 Diesel and well awhile ago the glow plugs burnted out. so just used ether to start it till i got all the parts.. figured new controller,relay, and plugs. well orgered all new parts finally about aweek ago.. after about 3 months.. got the relay,controoer and plugs from usdieselparts.com some of the best prices around i thought.. well today. finally installed everything. when to turned the key and well it started.. one of the first times w/o ether.. so put the air cleaner back on shut the hood figured good deal. opened the garage door turned the key. waited till the light went out.. and guess waht! the glow plugs all burned out.. so do any of you know how/why this happend again? to much volts?not enough.. this is driving me nuts.. just spend 200 for parts almost... and probly didnt need the controller or relay.. but probly cant return them.. just pisses me off how come the burned out again.. after 1 min lettin it idle. then shut it off. for about 8 or so.. and then turned again.. and not workin!! any help is appreciated.. what to look for or anything!!!

I think the Ford uses a timer somewhere in the system to turn the plugs off after they heat up. My guess is the timer or controller isn't working right, which means the plugs were receiving power the whole time the key was on. They won't stand that for long, and will burn out. Also check the glow plug fuse, it may only be the fuse.

i had one a few years ago doing the same thing but can't remember what i did. it was something going on in the precombustion chamber? i'll try to remember and i'll talk to friend thats a diesel mech to se if he can jare my memory. sorry i can't answer it right off the top of my head. might also try some of the diesel forums on other web sites. ford powerstroke owners have a pretty good web site for that type of question.
