Rotary engine in a quad?
European company Hercules made a rotary engine motorcycle for a few years in the early 70's.
A rotary valve is a crankshaft mounted disc that times the induction charge for a conventional two stroke. Not the same animal at all. Rotaries never fulfilled their early promise, mostly due to the troubles with the rotor seals and eventually their inherent failure to meet modern emissions standards. The seals last just so long and that's it. One day you go to start your rotary and there is no compression. Poof.

Arctic Cat 303 Wankel rotary. Rode one once, a buddy had one. God way back in the early-mid 70's. Ran pretty good and sounded cool.
With the small number of moving parts, and huge rpm potential, that engine design just seems like it has so much going for it. And heck Mazda still makes them, and they've worked so well in the RX cars. For sand rails they are great engines.
