Default Running a "Quiet Core" in FMF Mufflers

I am facing the "less sound, more ground" dilema. I have lots of area to ride in my local hills, but the major objection of people who live nearby is SOUND, not the riding itself. Plus, Calif. now has a 96dB limit for riding on public land. So, I am looking to quiet the 400's down. And of course, I would like to keep all the performance I can. If I had it to do over again, I would go with the FMF Q. But, to switch mufflers now, would cost a bundle of money. So, I am thinking of running a quiet core in the mufflers on my 400's.

Our Honda has an FMF PowerCoreIV, which is moderately loud. The Suzuki, has a Ti-4 and it is WICKEDLY LOUD! So, my question is whether anyone out there is running quiet cores, and what is your opinion of the change in power characteristics with and without the core. (This is California, so we have to run spark arrestors also!)

I have the quiet core for my hmf but I havent ever used it.
I did hear there were back pressure issues using it though.

The quiet core necks the outlet down to about 1 3/8", so back pressure is obviously the major issue. This might help low end power (like a torque stuffer), but high end is certainly going to suffer.

will the stealth muffler work for you? they claim it reduces exhaust noise by 50% or better with little or no loss in performance http://www.atvoutfitters.com/cgi-bin....htm?E+scstore

I have an stock fmf titanium on my moto. I used the fmf quiet core and had to lean out the fuel rate just a touch. I ran it on a dcbl meter and it was 92 at idle and just over a 100 at half throttle. It blew 107 before that. After tuning it put out just as much if not more power than before.

The original post is very old, and in the mean time I have put quiet cores in all my bikes. One thing it did for the Z is make the power more "tractable". I use to throw a lot of roost, and lose a lot of power spinning my wheels. Now all the power goes to the ground.....and with less sound.

The machine that was most radically effected were the Ranchers. They are way down on power, but these are the machines I ride in the national forest, so I am glad to compromise some power to keep somebody from complaining about the noise.

My FMF Ti -4 is loud and I dont think any faster on the bottom than...heck...STOCK. My old Power Core 4 was a great pipe but loud too. If I did a do over it would be the quiet-est I could find..prob a FMF-Q.
My.01.
SHHH!!!...were riding over here!!!

Hippy-You can put a quiet core in the Ti-4. I have it on my Z400, and the PowerCore IV on the 400EX.

Yes; Reconranger I know. Also about the different size openings on the tips(I am thinking of the smaller size for torque) I have yet to spend the $$$ yet. I wish for the quiet insert as well as a spark arrestor.
My gripes about the FMF Ti-4 are the decal instead of a real metal nameplate riveted on...c'mon FMF a frikin' sticker!?? Alright its an aluminum sticker; but still peels off! And another thing! your customer support is weak on the accesories available for your pipes...how about pictures of EACH product offered? Wow !that took a brain surgeon. Hello FMF its the internet WAKE-UP please.
OKAY, I am better now, RECONRANGER please tell me how you like the quiet insert and if you have spark arrestor capability with it or is that separate?
Thanks for the replies.
