I don't see what the heck you guys are talking about.
Martha Stewart is in no way a threat to public saftey.
She does not belong in prision.
We've got liquor store robbing crack heads free walking the streets and Martha behind bars.
It is just stupid.
Punish her, sure, but put her to work doing something productive.

 

Inside trading:: I think it's been done for years. Martha is just like Nixon. She got caught.

I lost 30K in the market a few years ago. If I would have had any inside info, I sure would have used it also.Trouble is, I believe like most that I would have to suffer greater consiquences than she does.
I care not for martha, but as a businessman,I have to respect her business knowledge.

Martha Stewart was made an example.
She did ehat anyone else woudl have done, including me, you and anyone else.
What she did wrong was the cover up, the cover up is always worse than the crime. ALl she did was not lose as much money as she woudl have, its not like she made millions off the pension funds of millions of retired workers. I heard none of you complaining about Dennis Kozlowski gettign off easy, have you?
Considering the situation, she is a fine upstanding citizen, employed thousands and thousands of Americans, paid a TON of taxes, she was crucified for telling a fib.
Bad deal, if it was your dad, without her money (lawyer)and they applied the same vigor, he would have gone to prison for years for somethng stupid.

None of you saying she got off light actually have any clue what she did, said, or wanted to do.

I am at least pleased, excuse the schadenfreud, that these high rollers who are stealing from the Joe Everyday stockholders (and that is exactly what's going on) are getting nailed. Even if it's Martha's few grand she saved, it's insider info and it's illegal. She knows it too. It is nothing but stealing.

People who steal should be punished accordingly, regardless of social standing. It is demonstrative that the big fatcat thieves are dropping during this administration, whereas the previous one pardoned every vile international crook out there who laundered him a big fat check.

You and I can't go steal "just a few thousand" without doing hard time. Equal protection under the law remains an unreached ideal, but at least we can strive for it such as we are seeing now.

 

To really punish people like Stewart, Kozlowski, Lay, etc, etc......you have to hit them where it hurts and that is the bank account. How about stripping them of all their assets and letting them start over, that might make them think twice before they make a dumb decission.....knowing that they will lose all that they have. Let them go and push buggies at Wal-Mart for a year or two, these are ambitious people....they just might be good at buggy pushing.

How many of you would be willing to due 1, 2,3, or maybe even 4 years of club fed time if you knew that when you got out you had tens if not hundreds of millions of $ sitting in a bank somewhere.....Now take away the money that would be waiting for you and how much time do you want to gamble for on insider info....I know I wouldn't.....
