Both of my boys have them. I prefer the Razor pocket rocket from w-mart ($150). It's battery powered, but I clocked my boy at 22 mph. I also have a 47cc Boheem (sp?) bike (40lbs.). It'll do 30ish. I bought it for $300 off of www.scooteronline.com.

 

Pep boys sells 'em here(philly) for $350-400 for a gas one. People are going nuts about them and they are trying to ban sales. Someone got killed a month ago driving it on a street.

 

I've been wondering how long it will be before they get banned or something because there all over the place here.
and getting more popular by the day.

 

What I don't understand is if you buy a street legal dirt bike you must purchase by law, insurance, go take a course on how to ride the bike and then you have a license the machine.

I am seeing these pocket bikes or small machines more often now and none of the above is required that I know of.

 

May fall under the mo-ped law or something.

In Georgia I think Mo-Peds are governed differently than Motorcycles.

 

I saw a grown man wipe out pretty bad on a sandy sidewalk,,,,,he was going pretty quick too.

 

In Indiana under 50cc AND under (?) horsepower need not be licensed. So you can buy a pocket rocket (relatively cheap), spend the money that otherwise would've gone to registration, plate & insurance on go-fast mods(still relatively cheap), then head out on the street & get splattered by some idiot with a cell phone attached to the side of their head. If I had the capital to invest, I'd build a little track or two, similar to go-kart tracks, promote races and thereby a) help the market b) get some of them out of the danger of being on public roads

 

In Utah, they are considered a motorized scooter. They are legal on 2 lane (<25mph) roads, with a helmet and adult supervision. My kids just ride around the block - doing laps (very little traffic).

However, there is one city that just banned them.
