im looking for a good dirtbike for christmas. its only going to be used for trails and i dont want a two stroke. i was looking at the yamaha ttr 230 and honda crf 230. which is a good choice?

 

I would pick the CRF230 way before the TTR 230. That's a very heavy pig that handles poorly. I just purchased a WR 250 for my sons and if you are looking for something that can do what these choices can do plus handle better and perform more like a snappy 2 stroke, you might want to check one out. 4-stroke bikes are boring.

I would go with the CRF250X It's a good bike for what yah get.
and tuned down from it's MX brother.

 

That's a great handling bike but has had some issues with the cylinder cracking plus you need to check the oil after every ride (not just trip-ride)

 

Given those 2 choices, I would go with the crf230. If you want more performance there are faster 4 strokes that also require lots more maintainence. CRF250X / WR250F etc... If you just want a simple trail bike that you can add gas to and ride, go with the crf230.
