The top speeds were from 2 stock bikes taken during the last test, in the Nevada desert. I know, I was quoting directly from the article it came from as I have the Feb 2005 DW edition in front of me. Page 100, bottom of the chart.

Stock Hon - 78.9 - 14/38 - 20" tires
Stock Yam - 78.3 - 14/38 - 20" tires

The bikes used in testing the gearing and tires for top speeds both had HMF pipes, but the stock runs were there for comparison.

I'm not saying that either magazine is right or wrong, but there should be some kind of explanation for the difference. Other magazines have tested the 2 450 quads in the low 70's, so there doesnt seem to be a consensus.
