Default Summer and Winter Weight Oils???

Just wondering how many of you change your oil weights with the seasons?

Here in the southwest, it is a land of EXTREMES! In summer, I can begin a ride in the valley (4,000 ft), where it typically will be ~100 degrees, and climb into the mountains (over 10,000 ft) and find myself riding in snow. A good multi-weight oil that will handle extremes is a must! In these conditions, I run Maxima Extra 15W50.

Winters in the low deserts are usually mild. While many parts of the country are burried is snow, we are out riding! Typical day temps are 60 to 80 degrees and nights are usually in the 40 to 50 range. But, it can occasionally freeze at night. Here I run Maxima Extra 10W40 or Ultra 5W40.

If I want to venture into the mountains during winter, you can find temperatures as low as you care to ride in. Here, I might pick a 5W30.

Anyway, my experience is that most people don't even change oil as a part of regular maintenance, much less change it for the seasons!

Amsoil 10-40 year round in my ktm. Belray 80wt 2 stroke gear oil year round in the 2 strokes, and castrol 10-40 year round in everything else. Temps range from 30-100 degrees.
