Default Back for now

When the first pictures and stories from Hurricane Katrina first started showing up, I was wondering how those people had to feel, losing so much at once, well now I have a small idea how some of them might have felt. Sept 3rd a quick, violent storm that spawned a few small tornadoes ripped through my area, and put 4 large trees through my roof, almost cutting my house ( 28 x 66 mobile home) in half, in fact, I can look up from my PC and see part of a tree still stuck there, to stop all the water coming in, we just cut everything off flush with the roof and put plywood over the top. My bedroom is mostly gone, got most of my clothes out before too much water poured in, now I have stuff stacked in the dry rooms, and am sleeping in a storage room on the other end of the house, thankfully there was a spare bathroom, and the kitchen is still working, so my son and I are staying until I hear from the insurance, but the house seems to be a total loss, and I have trees everywhere. You really don't appreciate what you had until it gets yanked out from under you, so I have a whole new view on those poor souls that lost 100 % of what they had, I know I was real lucky, I was home in the kitchen when it all hit, with all the wood, plaster and insulation flying, I was fortunate to come out unharmed and still have a liveable place for now, but the water in the ceiling and walls is seeping through, and the warm sun is not helping with the smell in the damaged areas. I finally got back online today, I was able to pull the PC out of the pile of insulation and sheetrock, it didn't get real wet, had to scrub a lot of dried plaster from the keyboard, but took it all apart and cleaned it out, seems to be working for now. Don't know what the time frame is for taking care of this mess, but it could be October or November before I have a permanent home again, so I thought I would post now, in case its a few months before I can get back on line in the new (hopefully ) house. One thing for sure, I AM DIGGING A BASEMENT TO HIDE IN NEXT TIME !!!! At least I wasn't stuck on my roof for days at a time surrounded by toxic water with no food or water, so I do count my blessings, my son wasn't home at the time, and no one, not even the dog outside, got hurt. So be thankful for what you have, it can all dissappear in an instant, and there isn't much you can do about it.

hey wolv, Sorry to hear about the storm. We had one roll through labor day weekend. Not as bad as that, but we lost several trees, house was struck by lightning, and with all the rain, my grandmas roof over her entryway collapesed (it is a 100 year old house though) I am glad to hear that you and you family is safe and unharmed. The storms can get really nasty. Hope things work out for the best with you...keep us posted
