I've tried yamaha pads, standard ebc metallic and ebc severe duty pads on my 98 Wolverine, none will last me over two months. I ride alot in mud which chews up the pads real quick!!! Has anyone tried the ceramic pads, kevlar or White brothers pads??? To be sure someone makes a pad that will last without trashing the rotors.

I share your frustration with Yamaha brakes (especially their drum brakes). I have 700 miles on my Grizzly and I am on my 3rd set of pads and shoes and they are almost ready for replacing again. (We ride in a lot of mud, water, sand, etc.) For brake pads I have had the best luck with the EBC full metallics (Sintered series). Still they only last for 200-250 of my miles. I have not tried the ceramics or white bros. Don't go with the Kevlar, they are primarily for motocross and will wear out very quickly in the mud. I just don't get it, the Kawasaki's and Polaris's that I ride with that have disc brakes don't eat pads the way my Yamaha buddies and I do. If you find any revolutionary fixes be sure to let us all know.

On another note, does anyone know of a disc brake conversion for the rear on the Grizzly? I don't mind replacing the brake pads often because atleast they work. The brake shoes really tick me off because I have to replace them all the time and they hardly ever work. They are usually full of water and mud because of Yamaha's awesome supposedly triple sealed brake drum design. Yes, I clean them all the time (almost every other weekend it seems.)

I ride in mud a lot and the ebc severe duty have worked great for me but i clean out the drum and breaks about once or twice a month. Its a pain cleanin it all the time but i would rather clean it and have working breaks than have to buy brake pads all the time.

Another quality brand to try is DP Dunlopad. They make a few different types of sintered pads that offer great performance and long life.
