Oh Man.. you're bound to start a fight with this one..
I would say it would have to be a liquid cooled engine since they have the coolant jackets to dampen noise. It would also help for it to be counterbalanced..
I havent heard the new Yamaha Kodiak run, so I can't speak for it, but as far as engine noise, I have to vote Polaris 500 (98 models and up)Its just my opinion, but at the engine, they are quiet... As for at the exhaust.. that depends on TOOO any variables..
Like I say, Just my opinion...
Oh, by Polaris 500.. I mean any of them, Scrambler 500, Magnum 500, Sportsman 500, Explorer 500... As long as they are counterbalanced.. My 97 Scrambler 500 does NOT have the counterbalancer and is quite a bit more "mechanical" sounding thatn the 98 and up models..

Of the ones I remember hearing?It is probably the Sportsman.Im sure I've heard all of them to.But im just not sure that's something that sticks in my mind as remembering.I could be wrong.====BILL

The AC 500 is a fairly quiet bike. Everyone said that it would be loud because it was big (they all have 300's). Its not really. I think the sportsman is the quietest that I have ridden. The transmission whine is louder than the engine.
