Having a title is really important unless you ride on your own property, or with permisission on someone else's property. I don't have my quad registered...yet, but at least if someone says I stole my quad I have proof that its mine with the title. You don't ride with the title, just keep it handy so it's there when you need it.

I live in Ohio and also had to get a title for my ATC250R, the problem was I bought it used many years ago, I registered it, but then switched frames because was bad. The license bureau told me to find receipts for anything major I had bought for the bike and have a letter stating that I am the current owner of the bike, signed by me. They accepted this and I was given a title,Hope this helps some of you out, Good luck.Chris Fredmonsky

Couple opinions/questions:

I have a couple of Roll Design bikes. Why would I want to spend an extra $2000 to $2500 more on a bill of orgin. I already have close to $15,000 in each one of these bikes. As far as protection from theft, don't see that it would help especially considering these bikes do not have serial numbers. Also, everyone I race with know these bikes belong to me, so if someone claims I stole them, I have plenty of witnesses to say I didn't. Insurance companies won't even talk to you about insuring these type of bikes so no advantage there.

If the state doesn't offer it you can't do it.

As far as where you ride, I can see that if the state requires it then you need it but what if the state does not require it. What good does it do you now. If you trespass, the title will not protect you from the fines that go along with it. If someone claims you stole it, it's their burden to prove it. (They are not any better off than you without the title).

I'm not trying to cause trouble. Just trying to get different viewpoints. I personally feel neutral. If you want/need to register then do so if not then don't.

But - what if they do have the title - you bought a stolen bike and didn't know it. You have no proof that you aint the guy who stole it. You are receiving stolen property anyway. I just feel a lot better having the title for my current ride.

Of course - if you run the VIN through DMV and its clean - I guess you don't have to be concerned about it being stolen.

I have ATV insurance and no title. I do have a certificate of origin but the Insurance co. did not ask for a copy. They did want the serial number though.
Sneeky.

I have full coverage and full loss on my 1987 LT500 Quadzilla I pay $240 a year they give me 2200-2400 for the blue book value and full loss on all aftermarket products as long as i have the receipts. You can not get ATV insurance without a title. Its just like a motorcycle would you buy a streetbike without a title.
Also I called Nacs racing and asked about their frames they quoted me a price on a mx Lagers frame for 2300 and some change podwercoated any color and also comes with a vin plate which is rivited on the chasis and a bill of origion in my name which i can take to the local Auto Tags dealer and apply for a pa title
Thankx again for the replys

Man... Here in the EMPIRE STATE it's
ruff to get a title.First you need a
bill of sale.Yea right! Then you need
a statement of onwership with VIN#
and a PENCIL RUBING off the frame.
You also need to have the Quad weight.
ALL THIS HASSLE to pay a $10 yearly fee and NY GIVES US NOWHERE TO RIDE!!

Do all ATV's no matter how old have a title? I bought an 87 quadzilla from the origional owner and he said he never had a title, right from the dealer. Is that possible?

Depending on what state you live in all quads and trikes came with a title or a Bill of Origion from the dealer most people loose these and almost every older quad out there for sale people don t have this paperwork. Run the numbers first at the local dmv to see if the bike is stolen

Whenever I sell a thing like a motorcyle or trailor, I always print out a bil of sale for both people to sign just for a little security.
