AMSOIL Dominator vs. Castor 927...
#1
I have used Maxima's Castor 927, mixed with both pump and race gas at 40:1, in my 250R for years. I have never noted any significant problems with it, but have occasionally had moderate deposits or discoloration both in the combustion chamber and on the piston skirts. Recently a family member was sponsored (flat-track motorcycles) by AMSOIL. He has given me a good supply of their Dominator line of premix and hours of praise on its behalf.
I read many available technical documents for both oils and compared their construction and additives, but would like to know how comparable these two oils are in real world terms; such as performance, stability/seperation in fuel, and alternate mix ratios.
Also, I noticed the price difference between the two. The Dominator is available in a case of twelve quarts for $108, while a comparable ammount of 927 would be around $130 (24 pints) through mail-order and around $200 over the counter.
Soon, I will be rebuilding/upgrading my engine again and after studying it have considered switching to the Dominator... Any fact-based opinions?
Finally, what would be a good ratio to run the synthetics? I know many can be mixed safely at 100:1 but something more reasonable sounds better suited to the 250R.
Thanks,

E-mail Maxima. They have always been very helpfull at answering any questions I have ever had. Ask them about the deposits, advantages and disadvantages.

Castor based oils will leave some depostis, but are more reasonally priced. Personally, I would use Maxima K2 synthetic. Amsoil is PAO based, which I feel is infreior in some ways to the ester based oils.
