Well I have both a 2000 lb. winch and a come-a-long, and a ****** block. I have a tammarack utility box on back of my atv. Including an army shovel that folds up so nice. My winch has a 50 foot cable. I have not seen a come-a-long yet with that much.

Earlier this year someone on this forum taught us how to pull your self out backwards, even with your electric winch mounted on the front. I will try the method if the need arrises. I can tell you this. When I am way back in the boonies. I want we me, everthing that might help me get free if I get stuck. I have extra rope, extra chain links. You name it. Can you always count on someone else to get you out. Be prepared your
self..... happy atving...........

JWestner asks, "Anyone ever try to wrap the wench, err winch cable over you and grab a tree behind you? Not I."

Neither have I, Joe; however, I HAVE snaked the cable UNDER my vehicle, threaded it through a ****** block anchored to a tree behind me, and hooked back to the rear of the vehicle. Worked.

Boner is right.A winch is alot easier to get than a riding buddie.Thats why if I have no riding buddie,I stray away from possible terrain that could leave me stuck.I also know what you mean when you say not every quad can pull you out if you were to get stuck.I know thats true.I buried the Sportsman with 26 inch mudders once.My brothers 97 KQ just sat and spun the tires. It took a Land Rover 2 tugs before he got me out.My brother now is equipped with Super Swamper Vampires and has since allways been able to get me un-stuck.====Bill

Impossible!

Treefarmer slipped mindfully from reality(but only for a second) when he penned this reply:

((The comealong may come in handy even after you mount your wench; pardon, winch.))

Freudian slip there Tree?
Well, I heard the wench will come along, IF you talk nicely to her!

I purchased the winch first, since I needed it to hoist the plow, then recently bought a come along to supplement that necessary piece of equipment. Anyone ever try to wrap the wench, err winch cable over you and grab a tree behind you? Not I

Like Tree stated, get the come-along first. Cheap insurance policy. When you're satisfied it's time to move up to the full blown wench, err winch,(there I go again and yes PUN intended, tongue firmly planted in cheek),buy it. You will likely not regret it once.

Not Impossible!!!

After all they are using the only (I include the little brother) true 4 wheel drive Quad on the market. What is really nice to note it is only 280cc.

Sorry if I offended anyone. Just had to put that comment in.

Note: I am not intending to start the true 4x4 discussion up again. I think we are all familiar with it.

Remember it is not important what we ride, but that we ride.
