In the, "Now, you don't see THAT every day," category, Eric Baatz and I watched the Tour de Forest mud pit, while a female person attempted transit on her quad.
About halfway through Pit I, the ATV reared up, as might the Lone Ranger's horse, Silver, stood on its tail, and refused to advance!
With no visible means of support, the front of the quad pointed skyward, becoming a somewhat truncated "Quadhenge" icon, not unlike "Carhenge" or even Stonehenge.
Ever see that happen?

BigBear,
That sounds like the mud-pit that was on the "pipeline" at the Quality Hunting Lease Mudrun... If thats it.. I KNOW that pit...
A friend was riding my Ymaha BigBear 2x4 and I was riding my Scrambler with a passenger. We picked a line kinda to the right and went for it... We MADE IT THRU!!!... So, testing our luck, we turned around and tried to go back thru... WELL, Somebody moved the mudholes on us.. MY buddy made it thru (25"swampers on rear) The Scrambler came to a screeching halt... I hopped off just about 10 ft. from dry land, and moved it a little, and told the girl I was riding with to steer left and go.... You can ask Adam.. she cut that wheel hard RIGHT and NAILED it... Right into the BOTTOMLESS pit...
NEVER let any girl named ROXANNE drive a 4-wheeler...

Last weekend I was riding on some land behind my house along a really , deep, muddy , rutted trail when all hell broke lose! I was going down a particular trail that had deep ruts in it and they are underwater so you can't tell exactly where they are at. Well I guessed well enough to put my right side tires in the left rut so the left tires could grab some traction on the edges. Well I was hammering along at near full throttle and about a 30 to 40 degree angle to the right side when I happened to come up to a little (about 3" diameter) tree on the left side where the tires were on the edge. I didn't see it in time but with the locked front end on my bike it hit that tree and threw the quad up to a 90 degree turn. Luckily it didn't start to tip over and I had time to get a leg down in the mud. But there it was on it's right side with 2 wheels still in the rut and 2 in the air (1 was on the tree). The bike kept running and I was actually able to put it in reverse and back it up off of the tree, but man was that a wild ride!

Yesterday I was riding in an arroyo where the sides formed a V so that my Scrambler was actually straddling the bike path. I was going way too fast and when my left front tire hit a big clump of dirt, the quad jerked around to the left and when I tried to pull it back, it just climbed on up the left wall of the arroyo and ended up inverted with me underneath. Fortunately, the quad was resting on the sides of the arroyo and I was in the V without any weight on me. But the Scrambler is way too heavy for an old guy like me to lift off alone, so I was pretty happy to see my riding partner come up the trail. Even if he was laughing so hard he could hardly lift anything.
My handlebars got tweaked a little and some oil leaked out, but when the got the quad flipped back over, it started right up.
Question: after having a Scrambler 500 upside-down for a couple minutes, is there anything I should check for, other than fluid levels?

Back before me and my buddies all had our own quads. Two of my friends took out a quad that belonged to one of my buddies parents. Well my friend was sitting in a mud hole and decided to throw a roost. The bike however grabbed traction and before he knew what happened it flipped over backwards. The guy, who's parents owned the quad saw it happen and came down a hill to see if he was alright. When he got there, there was my buddy underneath the quad hands still on the handlebars and feet still on the pegs. He was holding the quad up. He was afraid to lay it over because they wern't suppose to wreck it. My friend that came to help was laughing so hard that he could hardly help. He said there he was just like he was riding only the roles were reversed with the rider on bottom and the quad on top.

Oneday of riding at my buddies house, we were playing around on his track racing and bumping each other. There was a muddy spot in the one corner of the track. So we all started going through and trying to roost each other. After about 10 min of this there was a pretty good size mud hole ( about 20-25 ft dia. and about 12 -15 in deep). One friend went to roost another and he ended up grabbing and ended up laying the quad on its side. As I jumped for a perfect opportunity to cover him in some serious mud, I went up to him cut the bars and juiced it, out come the roost, just about buried him, then all of a sudden i grabbed, up came the front, off the back I went, and landed in about a foot of mud. Thank god we were both between the two quads that flipped, they protected us from the others..

Down at my brother-in-law's house there is a creek only about five feet across. One bank is about 3-4 feet higher than the other side.
We talked about trying to hop over it even though there is no lip to lift you. Well I did it anyways on my '86 Lt250 and landed it fine. About five months later I was buying my current '87 and test-riding it. We came across the same creek and I knew I had to conquer it. So without even trying to get a line at it, I spun around and pinned it to clear it first try and 'impress' everyone. That was my first mistake. I picked the wrong line and ended up trying to jump from a lower bank to a higher bank. Not going to happen. So I plowed into the opposite bank in third gear pinned. I hit so hard the front right tire was popped off the bead and I was flipped over the handlebars. I was fine thanks for my helmet and chest protection. If only I had been up creek about ten feet I would have cleared it in the right spot. Amazingly we drug the bike out of the creek and on three wheels I rode it about a mile or so back to the house. I still haven't conquered the creek yet on my previous ride but plan on it as soon as spring rolls around. Long live suzukis.
