Default new winch

Hi i just put a brand new Warn winch on my quad and i was wondering what the life span of winches are. i normally ride in swamps to where it covers the seat. If it never gets used will it still work when i need it? thanks

Default new winch

The lifespan of most any winch depends on how well it is maintained.

Where I ride I on occasion submerge my winch in mud, water, tundra muck and such. I use it to get myself out when I have to as well as others. I also use it to plow snow where It gets used a bunch.

The maintenance I perform is 2 times a year I take it a part and clean all the gunk out and regrease it. It is amost 4 years old and the only problems I have had with it was not cleaning it often enough. I had need for it but there was too much gunk inthe windings to allow the motor to spin. At first I thought it was the selinoid, but it was gunk inthe motor.

Now I am changing my 2 times a year to at least every 4 months. FOr me, at the beginning of my 3 seasons, 1-fishing season, 2-hunting season, 3-snow season.

By the way my winch is a Warn2500.

thanks alot swampyjunior. that really helps. I will make sure to clean it. Its kind of funny though, i got a warn 3000 and i only have a yamaha beartracker. Its a little overkill but if i take care of it i will never be stuck for very long.

I have seen the beartrackers that by hunting partner has go through some pretty nasty mud. Sometomes easier than the 4x4's.

Mostly when the riders got stuck they were able to get off and lift the bike to move it sideways and get back on and go some more. It should come in real handy and put a great big smile on your face when you pull a larger machine out though. (priceless moment)

Enjoy,

i have been lifting mine for a while know but just the other day i got stuck in like quick sand and 4 of us could not lift the thing out. suction took oer my mudlight tires. i also think if a bigger machine is really stuck it will just pull my atv forward or it will ripe my front bumber off. i guess i will have to find out. Thanks Again
