After over thinking what and which winch to buy for my honda foreman 4x4 ..a relavation came...I went to home depot bought a one ton come along with 12'cable and 100 ft. of 2000 lb rope..problem solved for $44.00!!..I bungy cord them to my back rack AND pulled myself out of the mud twice already ..From behind ..(never any trees in front!!) and PLUS why would you want to winch forward when you already got stuck once? Io personally think factory winches should be installed in the back over the front anyday..well thats my 2cents...

 

They're put in the front because that way you can continue to go in the direction you were headed, you obviously wanted to go there bad enough to get stuck so you might as well continue on. That said, i always mount mine on the rear. I've used a come-along like you have before and it works, but takes alot more time and strength than simplly reeling out the cable and pushing a button.

 

Putting them on the back would also let you pull your buddy through where you went and he could not [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]
