Default AFX Helmets

It's time to look for a new helmet. My MX got cracked in a rollover, so I've been using a street one and it is just way too heavy. I have been looking at an AFX MX helmet. Are they any good? I am looking for a good helmet to do just trail riding that is very light weight. Thanks.

I've had my AFX FX-87 helmet for a little over a year now and I like it a lot. It is very light, well ventilated, and built to last. I would definitely buy one again if I was to do it all over again. The one I have is HERE, but in blue.

My neighbor has an AFX, and it seems just as good as my HJC... plus they are reasonable with their prices too ........ I would say go for it.....

Thanks for the replies. I found FX-87 that was used under 10 times (smells like new) with new Scott goggles for $50, so I'm going to jump on it.

I would seriously advise against buying a used helmet......

Helmets are designed for only ONE crash........ If the foam on the inside is already been hit once, it is compressed and will seriously affect the helmets ability to protect your head. And sometimes it is impossible to tell if the helmet has taken a hit already. The damage to the foam could be uniform and smooth and you will never see it. There might not even be a mark on the outside of the helmet if the impact was with a softer material....

If you trust the person, and know them well, and they assure you it has never taken a hit, then maybe it would not be bad. But I would not trust a stranger to care enough about my own head....

Very good points ss97. I went to look at the helmet yesterday morning. I aksed the guy if he had fallen with it or whacked it. His answer was "not really" which was not really a good enough answer for me. I passed on it. I'm looking for a new one for sure, but I saw this one in the paper and the guy lived a few roads down from me.

For the past 6 years that is all I buy is AFX, I think that for the money, they provide very good protection........................................ .................................................. .................................................. .....................................oops sorry, my brain just had a cramp, anyways where was I, mary had a little lamb her,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,seriously though they are a good bang for the buck, they look good and have some cool designs. Both my children use them also. I like how on some models you can remove or add padding. The last two I had were brand new, as in one week old, both took hard hits, then into the dump. Still buying them, have the stealth black full face, velcro goggle straps.

Forgot to update this thread. I bought a brand new AFX helmet with Scott goggles. I love it. It is so much lighter than my street helmet. Only problem is I havn't worn it out riding yet because my TB has been down for awhile. The day I bought it I broke down. So I've just been sitting in my living room with it on!
