If your referring to having your butt jarred loose from the seat and eating a bunch of dirt, well, horses are willing to assist in that area for sure. Don't get me wrong, horses still have a place on the farm but the ATV will do so many of the jobs so much faster and easier it just makes good sense to use them. Besides, they are fun.

Many farmers are using ATVs in their day to day operations. It's getting to be where seeing cattle being moved with horses is way less common than seeing ATVs being used. Checking fences, crops, irrigation and such are natural jobs for an ATV. Less expensive and easier to maintain than a horse and I have yet to have an ATV try to bite or kick me.
My horse has NEVER bit or kicked me. But my quad sure has.

Our surveyors use an atv and a Polaris Ranger out in the field. Not every day, but it's at their disposal. The sheriff's office also uses 2 Polaris's to patrol the ohv parks. The local police dept. uses two enduros to patrol their parks along the river and creek through town along with various bike paths.

I can absolutely believe that. I've had horses that you could pile kids on from behind their ears to one hanging on the tail and they just loved it. Nursemaids like that would never put a foot down without knowing there were no little feet in danger. But then I have also had the ones that were as ornery as a sunburned snake. My dad once told me some horses, and mules, will work hard for you for years just to get a chance for one good solid kick. Kind of like some people. If you work with enough horses over the years you are going to have some bad experiences. I suspect it will prove to be similar with the quads.
