to my understanding and i could be wrong but when you join ama or other motocycle atv memberships you can pick your number but if it's already taken you have to pick another. My buddy races flat track and so this is what he told me....

My race number is 26. I chose it because it is my B-day. I also share that number with another forum member, Motox26.

Share? You stole it! lol

I've been 26 since my dad was gonna have me race a trike when I was 8 or so. Asked what number I wanted and for some reason I said 26. Years later I realized 2 and 6 stand for my initials as well. 2=B and 6=F. I thought it was purty cool anyways.

I've raced karts, ATV's, and Dirtbikes, always been 26.

If you run an AMA/ATVA sanctioned event they give you a list of number to choose from.... If you run a local race, ask whoever is running it to see a list of known numbers, and then pick one that is still available....

It's better to pick one no one is likely to have (3-digit) then to have to add a one with some electrical tape or something because five people show up with #10 or #25 or something.

Whenever I get the chance to race I run #472

In AMA/ATVA, you're supposed to run your ID #, and no one else can take that number. However, you can run what number you want as long as that AMA member with that number hasn't shown up for that race.

Other than that, it is always first come, first serve.

All your life? I thought you chose #26 because you were a dedicated Moto fan?
