Durable Boots ?
#1
The buckles keep breaking off my sons Fox boots. Fox will replace them but the problem remains. I'm Looking for a reasonably priced boot that is durable. More concerned about safety & durability than fancy looks Thanks for any first hand info.

I like the fox forma pro. They have mettle buckles never broke one yet. I had a nasty wreck a few years back and broke both bones in my lower leg, The boot worked like a cast and kept the bones from doing any internal damage. My doctor was amazed. Not saying a different boot wouldn't do the same thing. Seems that Alpine has the best reviews. All my friends like alpine. I might try them next time I need boots.

Thanks for the replies. His last boots where Alpinstars. Great boots but a bit spendy. Buckles & soles held up great but the inner linings wore out. Not the fault of the boot, he rides nearly every day in this Oregon mud & sand. Usually has to walk out of the woods when something breaks. Hard on boots. Just bugs me to have the buckles breaking off a boot that is nearly new. Hate to spend a bunch on something he'll outgrow by next summer. Guess I better suck it up & spend the money. When I do woods riding or technical stuff on the utility quads, I am likely to be off the bike quite a bit. For that, I use the Tech 4 with ATV sole. I could ablsoutely walk all day in them, but they aren't as stiff and don't offer the greatest ankle protection.
For high speed desert riding, I have the Tech 6. It is a nice combination between protection and comfort! Stiff enough for ankle protection, but if I have to walk a little they at least don't absolutely kill me.

AlpineStars are the only boot I will spend money on. Once you buy a pair, its hard to go back to anything else. I have a pair of Tech 10's right now but have owned/worn Tech 4 and Tech 6's and like them just as much. I have seen Tech 4's on sale for as little as $129.00.

Nothing but AlpineStars for me.
Brother in law got a pair of Thor Quadrants at Dennis Kirk for 78 bucks. Don't know what size your son wears, but he has small feet.
Check out their discount section. May look at Rocky Mountain ATV too.

Another vote here for Fox Forma Pro Boots. Like everyone says, AlpineStars are the best (if you can afford them). I've had A LOT of good luck getting slightly used boots on Ebay! I've had Tech 8s, Fox Forma Pros, etc., and never paid more than $100 for the pair. This is the right time of year to be purchasing, as the rush for MX Gear hits in the spring.
