Chinese made ATVs?
#11
Thanks for the input, every one. The main reason I asked was because my husband and I were thinking of starting an ATV rental service in our area and we were looking into different atvs. Would you rent a Chinese made atv for a day versus buying any atv and having to do your own maintenance, repairs, and storage??
I understand that most everyone on this forum has their own atv. I personally have a used honda big red, which I absolutely love! I spent a whopping $350 for it. But, if the price was right, I would have rented an atv for a while just to see if I liked it. Personally, I'm not that much into thrill riding (my health insurance isn't good enough to get too extreme!!), but I sure love riding on the forest service roads.
What would you consider a good price for a full day's rental on an atv?

I think your rental fees will be based more on what the market will bear than anything else. Then it's up to your number crunching to see if it can be profitable. We have a couple of places around here that rent ATV's. Seems like the average rate is around $125 to $175 per day. Very large deposit (like $5K) is required on a credit card or there is an additional insurance charge that adds an extra charge ($25 or $50 per day, can't remember). It seems to me that these are the kind of rates that need to be charged to make a living at rentals, however rates like this probably only target the one-day tourest type rental. The other part of rentals would be if you are just renting the ATV or if you are into renting the equipment and then taking your clients on a guided ride.
We had an ATV vacation a couple of years ago where we were shy one ATV for our party. Checked the regular rental places but even with a discount for long term (10-day) rental, we were looking at about a $1,500 rental fee. For that kind of money it would make more sense to buy a used bike for around 3K, use it for the vacation and then sell it at a couple of hundred dollar loss. I wound up making a deal with a local ATV dealer - Paid $200 to rent a used ATV that he's had on his lot for a while. I got a cheap rental and he made some extra money on an ATV that came back with no additional wear or tear.
