Riding solo
#1
I know that rinding alone in the back country is not suggested, but then again a lot of things in life are not suggested, but are a heck of a lot of fun. Anyway, do any of your ride alone, and if so, what all do you take with you? Tools, tire repair kits, etc. What all do you suggest for someone who rides solo?

Hey..to each his/her own....
I'm not an experienced rider, but I loaded up my rear gear with tools, compressor, tire repair, I should get an extra brake and throttle cable, flares, 2 moon blankets, waterproof matches, lighter, flashlight, C-rats from Army/Navy store, loop and hook tow straps, ****** block, knife, hatchet, and walkie talkie.
Make sure your cell is fully charged...extra battery.....tell someone where you're going to be riding and when you leave and expected to return.....
I read of a personal beacon that skiers, sledders and ATV'ers use......close to $300 I think....
What I've shared may be overkill, but we had an incident where a rider went out alone, had a heart attack
and died....
So like I said, to each his/her own......all it takes is once and you're f*cked.....
I'm not an indestructible 20 year old anymore.....plus, I haven't met Catherine Zeta Jones yet,
so I gotta keep breathing! LOL!

I wouldnt reccomend it, but I do it from time to time when I just gotta ride but no one to ride with. Chances are that if you choose a legal spot to ride you will run into at least 1 other rider, but I have ridden and not seen a soul at some of the less popular spots. You just got to take the chance and hope you are prepared for whatever may come. at the very least I take my cell and my handheld GPS, so if I get into trouble and am conscious I can call and relay my position, but knock on wood, I've never had to call for help.

No big deal!!! I spent my youth riding Baja, most of the time solo! I would fill that tank on the dirt bike, ride until it was half gone, then trun around and ride back. Did that almost every day in summer. Taught me how to be self reliant!!!
Everybody I know is welcome on any of my rides, but often nobody can make it....I do the ride anyway. I did solo hiking and solo mountainbiking before that.....again no big deal. On some rides, especially if I am exploring a new area and trying new trails, I would just as soon not have any whinners along anyway!
I just make sure to file a "flight plan", and I check in now and then if I have cell service. Sat phone is a good idea where you don't have cell service, and there was a post recently in here about a satalite tracker, that looked interesting.
I always carry lots of water, basic survival/first aid equipment, and appropriate clothing for the season, no matter what. If I had to spend a night in the woods, again...no big deal. Basic tools, a patch kit and CO2 cartridges....of course.
