Default Kids Helmets? For a 3 year old... ?

Hi All,

My buddy's mother-in-law is buying a small electric quad for his Son's 3rd... yes 3rd B-day...

Well my friend wants to get a helmet.. granted the thing maxes out @ 8mph... but should he go with a Full-face ? Bikebandit has them for $62 shipped.. a Nice HJC..

Any thoughts? his head sizes for a Adult XX-Small or a Youth Med.. I am guessing the Adult XX-Small as the kid will grow and they should get a year out of it...

You might want to go with the youth model. In most cases the youth shell is smaller and lighter than the adult shell. Both of my kids used a good quality bicycle helmet with their first ride-on toys. They are extremely lightweight and offer good protection. You can get a BMX-stye full face to fit. Try Bell, Giro or Fox. Be safe!

I agree with OIown12, get the kids helmet. Went through the same thing with my 5 and 7yr old a couple years ago. Kids aren't going that fast so their helmets are a little lighter. They look like bobble head dolls as it is. Both of them have had spills going about as fast as they dare on the 70cc and the kids' helmets have protected them over and beyond any damage they could have done to themselves. Rocky Mountain ATV has a good selection.

I agree also... Id go with the youth helmet or a bicycle type. Adult helmets weigh to much for the little kids neck to support.

Cool, Makes sense... I'll go with the Youth-Medium then....

I checked out the Bell, Giro and Fox BMX style full face.. but they priced out to be more expensive! haha...

The HJC youth closeout price (normally a $140 helmet! Bikebandit ROCKS) is slightly more at $57 bringing the total to $65 shipped... I need some stuff for my quad.. so I'll just split the shipping w/them...

It seems to me that kid has a huge melon for a 3 year old. No offense intended. I have a XXL head myself. Since he's going to be top heavy I think a full-face helmet is a good idea. You just KNOW he's going to land on his head.
