You can easily hop up the engine and change the gearing to go as fast as you want. Isn't 80mph fast enough?

How fast do you want to hit a @#$%ing tree anyway. It an OFF-ROAD vehicle. Most days that I ride I don't even get close to half that speed. 1/4 that speed is normal for me. My best friend was riding with another friend from work who had a snowmobile that went faster than that. Until he crashed. His body was embeded in a tree and paramedics had to pry the pieces out. Like the old saying goes, Speed Kills. I don't know why ATVs, motorcycles, or snowmobiles need to go that fast. The speed limit on the highway is only 70 so why does anyone need a vehicle that can do 100 or 200 mph?

The same reason people shouldn't drink and drive. It's too dangerous and the odds that you'll crash and are higher. If you want to get scraped off of something, buy yourself a crotch rocket

Yeah the only ATVs that hit 80 are highly modded desert racers like in the Baja..... the factory Honda 700xx that just won was clocked at 87mph during the race....... but that is the wide open desert and in a professional racers hands......

Most of us ride in places where 60mph is scary fast and one false move could mean major carnage......

They are not like sleds where you are on a 25,000 acre lake with no turns or trees.... most trails are probably 35-40mph trails where anything faster will be too fast....

Ever try to stop fast on dirt at 50mph? Try doing it at 80............

My KTM has a 6 speed and the only place Ive used 5th is at the dunes. Ive heard it will go over 100 in 6th. Not sure where I would ever want to go that fast. Maybe if I rode in the desert....maybe. In 5th I can walk away from all my riding buddies on their 2 stroke mxers. When I need chain and a sprocket's Im going to gear down a little. Over 80 on a quad is suicide like most have commented here.

Short wheelbases on quads make them really twitchy at high speed. Just think about going in that direction and you're there. Not a good thing if you just happen to be thinking about a tree........
