I read a lot of really weird news. Here's the weirdest one I saw today. I know you can top this.
An Eastern Iowa woman had more of a jolt than usual from her morning coffee.
The Iowa Department of Public Health reports that the woman had seen a bat
in her house, but wasn't particularly concerned about it.
She turned on her automatic coffee maker, went to bed and drank her coffee
as usual the next morning.
When she removed the coffee filter that night, however, she discovered a
dead bat in the filter that had gone through that morning's brew cycle.
Ann Garvey, public health veterinarian, said the woman underwent rabies
treatment for the exposure, which occurred last month.
The bat was sent to University Hygienic Laboratory in Oakdale for rabies
testing, but the brain had been too cooked by the heat of the brewing water
for a determination, according to the health department.
Garvey noted that supplies of rabies vaccine are down because one of the two
manufacturers has temporarily suspended production.
A new protocol requires that state health departments are notified when
someone asks for rabies vaccine to ensure national recommendations for the
available supply are followed.
Garvey said rabies calls typically increase in August and September, when
bats are looking for a warmer place indoors.
Two years ago, a Sioux City woman found a drowned bat in the bottom of her
sun tea mug that was about the size of two tea bags.
That bat was found to not have rabies.
Nationwide, between 20,000 and 40,000 people annually receive rabies
treatment, Garvey said.
In Iowa this year, only two cats - one in Linn County; one in Bremer
County - and a skunk in Mitchell County have tested positive for rabies at
the Hygienic Lab out of just over 300 animals tested.
None of 83 big brown bats have tested positive for rabies. Bats, cats and
dogs are the animals most commonly tested at the lab.
She didn't even notice anything wrong with the flavor.
That must have been some really bad coffee. Or some really good bat. - Frank

Ha ha ha ha, kind of like that movie Hollywood Knights: "it does have a little **** to it". LMAO!!! (Am I the only one to see that movie?)
On a serious note, rabies is a bad way to die. If you get it they just watch you go crazy in the hospital bed while the virus eats on your brain until you die.

Rabies treatments are nasty. I'm not sure if they still do it by injecting the treatment into your spinal column as before but it is not pleasent sounding. The good news is that rabies really paired down the local raccoon population a few years back and I haven't had to deal with the crafty little critters spreading my trash around the backyard as much.

Starbats.
I think I saw that movie, or at least part of it, but it was so long ago I couldn't remember anything about it. Now I think I know what you're talking about. It seems to me there was a girl drinking punch who said "I've tasted this before" or something like that. If that was the same movie I know what gave it the tangy flavor.
