That kind of reminds me of the guy who was driving a semi-tractor trailer truck during the Rodney King riots. Here were a bunch of lunatics throwing bricks at a guy just trying to do his job and he stopped. They pulled him out of his truck and almost bashed him to death. If it were me, I'd drop it down a gear, honk the horn, and floor it to get out of a deadly riot scenario.
You know I thought the same thing when I saw that. All he had to do was rev to 3000rpms and dump the clutch in first and then slam on the brake and popped the clutch again.....He would of shook them all off that truck.

I just now remember his name. It was Reginald Denny or something close to that. You don't stop in the middle of a riot. You drop it in low to rev the engine and make a scary noise, honk the horn, aim, and keep going. My father in law once told my wife and sisters in law to not stop for red lights at night in a certain bad section of Boston. My sister in law came through that area late one night and slowed to look for traffic and went through the red light. Police officer stopped her, she told him what her father had said, he said, "have a good night", and let her go.
