Default Carb clean after issue. What am i doing?

Hey guys,

Not sure if right topic but, will move if no results.

I'm having a bit of a issue. When it comes to carb cleaning lately I've been letting my bro handle it. I've done my share, he's done more. Strange thing is we've both been have the same issue afterwords. (This is on different machines)

What happens is after the cleaning everything will run and idle much better but, it always acts as if the throttle cable is hanging even though it's not. So when you give a bit of throttle the rpm's stick at that point. Now you can put it in gear and slowly let out the clutch to let the engine pull the rpm's back down and it will stay until you press the throttle again.

I don't know what's causing this. One quad just seemed to fix itself. Others we've pulled the carb back off dismantled it and put back together and things would be okay. What are we doing?

Are you checking the throttle cable as well? Could be they need a little lube, or just got routed a different way than originally. Not sure which type carb, but maybe the slide is sticking or the return spring?

Just tossing stuff out.

Good thoughts scooter. Could any of them explain the ability to pull down the rpm by putting liad on the engine? That seems odd behavior to me and sounds like a air leak bit can't find anything.

Also sounds to me like an air leak.

Try spraying some spray oil around the intake manifold and intake/carb junction.

If it changes how the engine runs and/or makes smoke...

We sprayed all around and re-seated the boots. Didn't make a bit of difference. Maybe this weekend we will get a chance to pull this carb back apart and see what we can find.

You could have pilot screw mixture wrong [in wrong setting]or needle jet clip in wrong groove this would cause an feather like idle drop instead of crisp idle drop.

Yeah, it does sound like it is running lean.
