Default Brakes 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500

Hey guys, I started by posting this in the Polaris Forum but have received no productive replies. Someone please take a look and give me some advice.

I have replaced both front and rear pads on my 2000 Sportsman 500 and have very good braking. However, the parking brake is not holding well on a slight incline. How do I adjust the parking brake? I see no reference to adjustment in the manual I downloaded.

I am also unsure of how much to adjust the adjusting screw in the front calipers. I turned it in until I felt some resistance then backed off 1/2 turn, but is that enough. Or should I turn it in until it stops then back off the 1/2 turn? Would this have an effect on the parking brake?

All help will be appreciated.

Thanks, Bob

Sounds like you done the set crew a ok,normally turn it in until you feel resistance, then back off 1/4 turn. As far as the parking brake just clamp down hard on the lever and apply the parking brake tab. If the tab is worn or the master cylinder has any air causing a leak down this could cause the problem.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
