Default Fuel gauge won't display

I have a 2010 sportsman 500 ho. I recently installed a winch. Based on the install instructions they said the connect to winch switch to the ignition switch wire. So that's what I did. But the winch didn't work. I connected it with a quick splice connector. Shortly there after I found the accessory wire for it and it worked. But now my fuel gauge doesn't display on my LCD instrument cluster. Everything else as far as rpms, miles, trip and gear indicator work just fine and I still get gas. Any suggestions on why its not displaying?

Recheck your wiring, plus pull the speedo connector for a couple minutes, plug back in and see if the fuel gauge registers. If it doesn't check the resistance on the purple/white and brown wires from the sender plug on the tank.Empty tank should read 5 ohms, full 90 ohms. If the tank is half full or more and reads low resistance the sender could be at fault.

How would I go about checking the ohms? I'm not very savvy in those regards, lol! I would assume I need a ohm meter but where would I touch the leads to? A little step by step would help greatly. Thanks

Also where would the sender plug be located? At the bottom of the tank?

You have to have a meter. Set it to ohms. Pop the front small panel and you should have room to see the connector and pull it off. Just touch one lead to each pin on the fuel pump side of the connector.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
