Quick Silver Lawn Mower
#2
I've had a Swisher 60" tow behind mower for 4 years. I mow a 5 acre field in about 3 hours, where the 42" garden tractor I used to have took a full 8 hours. I bought it from Northern Tool & Equipment Co. for $1100, but I see they're up to $1350 now. The perfomance and reliability has been good, although I did have an idler pulley loosen up and destroy a belt. Don't waste your money on automotive supply store v-belts, they don't hold up. The belts Swisher sells are the best.

Greetings,
This has been asked before in here so you might find additional responses through a search. Now for my opinion...
I looked into these and didn't like the control arm that swings back to the operator -- it just looks like the kind of thing that will catch on stuff and generally won't last long. I bought a tow behind flail mower to cut fields and it has worked well -- once I got the hitch thing worked out. But in re-thinking the whole thing, I'll offer the following:
a. Unless you have a lot of grass, you may be better off just buying a riding mower. They come in all price ranges, but you can get one for about the same price as a good tow-behind.
b. Unlike mowers and tractors, quads don't have a steady throttle -- you have to constantly monitor and adjust speed while mowing. This isn't a big deal, but its also not trivial especially if you have hills.
c. If you do get a mower for your ATV, be sure the hitch fits. My experience taught me just how important an eigth of an inch can be -- if it aint right, its wrong. And I've spent a lot of time getting it right.
Just my opinion.
