Pretty soon I plan on creating a new trail. It is my first attempt at doing this and I'm not to sure about how to go about things. It will be all uphill to join into an old ogger road (type of mining), were I will have to clear a path out to an older trail no one rides. Obviously I will have to do a lot of clearing of old brush and stuff. I was just wondering if there is an internet site with this type of information on it, so I will have a good idea on what I am doing. I can imagine that it will take quite a while to make a nice trail. Today I'm going to go and find the easiest way up, its only about 400 feet to the old mine road. I don't know if I will have any help, since I do want to keep it a somewhat private trail. The two reasons I want to do this are to keep from having to ride on blacktop to reach the main trail we ride on, and to service a water spring from which our water comes from. Any info would be greatly appreciated, personal experiences, internet sites, an orginazation to call and ask. Thanks.

I have cleared some of our 100 miles of trails that we have. Here is the easiest way to do it.

First- Simply drive your quad through the area that you want to have the trail on and find the easiest way through.
Many of the trails that I have created required very little clearing of brush and tree branches. I do not cut trees down.

Second- clear any brush or dead tree limbs that get in the way.

Third- ride the trail several times to break it in. It wont take long to break it in.

Thanks for the reply.

I still haven't found time to do it yet. You know how it can be when you want to do something, 1000 other things pop up that have to be done first.

I have a friend that will help me out some. We had pretty much figured on doing in the way you mentioned. It should be fun, but I'll have to find a way to keep all the hoodlums out.

The best thing to do is to get all your friends with 4 wheele drives and go over the trail alot to me the tree limbs and such just add to the fun of ridding the trail!!!

It might help to drag a bar, that has some thick chains attached to it, behind your ATV as this will break in the trail quicker. Be careful not to get stuck on bolders or tree stumps.

Just a side note to this trail thing, if you find that you must remove any small trees you would be better on pulling them compleatly out of the ground instead of cutting them down, it doesnt matter how low you can cut them the stump will always be there and over time could become a problem. Rob
