When look at the bible, I see just another book. It is just some book some guy wrote a long time ago, and got many people to beleieve what it says is real. Yes, I have read some of the bible, not all of it, but some of it. It just does not hold my attention. (And it is hard to understand too)
Now I understand that my veiws of religion are minority in this country, and that is fine. You believe in an almighty being, and that is fine. On the other hand, I do not. It is my opinion, just like you guys have your opinions. And no person or book will change that.
My wife and her family are very religious people. Me and my side of the family are not. And when my daughter is old enough to decide for her self, she will make her own choice as well.
Like I said, I think what you guys believe is good and very exceptable. I just have different views.

MADSWEAZL hit the nail square on the head, my wife and about 1/4 of my friends are into the bible, and always say "well it says so in the bible" like it was written in the side of a granite mountain by God himself. The Bible, like the Koran were written by people, lets do a test think of a story tell it to one of your friends, and after a couple of weeks lets see how distorted the story becomes. I am certain the Bible is loosly based on facts, but to take it as indisputable fact is just nieve.

First of all let's get some definitions on the table...
Agnostic... A person who believes there may or may not be a God but doesn't think there is a way to prove it.
Atheist... A person who believes there is no God.
Christian... A person who believes in Christ and who adheres to his teachings and follows his example in all aspects to the best of that persons ability.
Some who have posted may choose to revise how they describe their beliefs based on the definitions.
Addressing those who describe themselves as Christian...
It should be obvious to you as an adherant of Christs life and teachings that there is no such thing as a "Christian Nation" unless you are speaking of a collective nation of people, regardless of their location on the globe, who live by the standards he set out.
The Bible speaks of the world in 2 different senses. The world meaning the earth itself, and the world meaning the various authorities and the societies they represent. Jesus told his followers to be no part of the world {John 15:17-19}, meaning that they were to keep themselves free from the affairs of state or other political matters. There are several examples of this involving Jesus himself. One example is when Jesus was being questioned by Pilate. Pilate asked if Jesus was a king, which he admitted to being, but then explained that his kingdom was not a part of this world. {John 18:36,37}
Jesus was pressured by the people of his day to become a ruler over them, which he literally ran from. {John 6:14,15}
And finally Jesus was offered rulership of the entire world, which he rejected. {Luke 4:6-8, Matthew 4:8-11}
God has the ultimate authority to control the goings on in the universe, but He has chosen to allow humankind to attempt ruling themselves in order to prove once and for all that humankind cannot rule themselves successfully. He has chosen to do this as a result of the rebellion of our first human parents who rejected God's commands not to eat the fruit from the tree in the Garden of Eden. By not following this simple command, they effectively decided for themselves that they could rule themselves as well or better than God could. Since He demonstrates perfect justice He has allowed humankind to try every possible kind of government to prove to themselves that humankind needs divine direction.
It is this same quality of justice that prevents Him from doing anything malicious or hurtful even including impatience and lying. {2Peter 3:9, Titus 1:2}
Which brings us to the idea that God would torture those He disfavors in a firey pit for all eternity. Since God's greatest gift to humankind is life itself, then the ultimate punishment is to lose that life. A person who has concsiously disregarded God's requirements is considered a sinner. And according to God's perfect justice a sinner can be punished by Him for that sin. God does not punish people unless they have sinned and the bible says that the wages sin pays is death. {Romans 6:23}
James 1:13-15 explains God's position in that He never puts anyone under trial, but rather humankinds own desires cause them to have problems that result in the kind of bloodshed and heart ache that has happened in this country.
As Jesus explained to His diciples, there would be indicators as to when God will end the plight of humble humankind and re-establish His rulership over the earth.{Matthew 24:3-14, Mark 13:4-13, Daniel 2:44}
The Bible explains that at that time God will restore the earth to its original condition when humankind rejected his rulership.{Revelation 21:4, Isaiah 11:3-9, Psalm 37:8-11}
Of course God has allowed us a free will to do whatever we want. By exercising that free will, we decide on a daily basis whether we want to live by God's standards or not. In God's view, an Atheist is entitled to his or her beliefs the same as a Christian, the same as a Bhuddist, the same as a Muslim. They may all live their entire lives firm in those beliefs, but when they die, only those that truely have God's favor will be restored to life on the restored earth.
I have personally seen the benefits of applying the Bible's standards in my life now and hope to benefit from them forever.

A couple of topics/questions on which to ponder for all you religious fanatics who think you can apply religion to EVERYTHING:

1. Do you really think God gives a crap whether "His" name is in capitals when mentioned in a sentence? I mean, what would he do if I didn't want to capitalize "his" name?

2. If you fly to the international space station (where, indidentally, there is no gravity therefore no "up" or "down&quot and you ask an astronaut to point to Heaven, where does he point?

3. If you ask this same astronaut to point to "hell" he just may point toward the planet Earth itself, where a lot of mistaken people believe the "devil" resides, in the core of the earth!

4. In all of the renderings and paintings of Jesus, who cut his hair in those days?

I believe in God--I just feel that most all of the "hereafter" basically resides THERE AFTER--where we'll never know the answers until we get there....and I have a laugh at lesser-minded people these days who would have an issue answering or even PONDERING these four questions.

Hi, my name is Mickey Dunlap, owner of Four Stroke Tech. Just wanted to say I have enjoyed reading this forum, both the believers and the unbelievers. I am encouraged by the believers and I have heard myself in the unbelievers through what they have said and what they have expressed in their opinions. I had many of these opinions most of my life for about 30 years that is. I wasn't raised in a Christian family, I didn't go to church, racing and riding motorcyles was the only thing that was important to me. My goal in life was to achieve a factory ride and in 1984, I signed with Honda to race on their ATV team. This was at the age of 25. I did everything I wanted to do in life and yet I wasn't happy. I tried to fill it with fame, money, drugs, alcohol, adulterous affairs, anything I thought would bring me pleasure. But after 5 years of total neglect of myself and th people around me, I found myself seeking God and looking for the meaning of life because quite frankly I didn't see much reason for living. I was one of those people that had to hit bottom so the only way I could look was up. I had been going to AA meetings for about 3 years after 4 DWI's and I saw how a God of my understanding loved me and wanted to guide me in life but I still didn't have a relationship with Him. After my 2nd marriage failed, I started going to church and hearing the gospel preached but still didn't understand it. Some people from church visited me on a Monday night and explained to me the plan of salvation and by simple child-like faith, I got down on my knees and asked Christ to come into my heart. I had tried reading the Bible many times on my own - it didn't make sense to me and didn't hold my attention either. The Bible was not meant to be understood completely without the Spirit of God living within you. It is the believer's owner's manual for life. I just wanted to say a few things to let the unbeliever know that if God is working in your heart right now, today is the day of salvation. Each day we have choices to make. You can accept Him on reject Him. That is the free will God has given you. Those 5,000 people that are still missing probably thought they were going home that night but as we know they didn't. What were the chances of an airplane crashing into the building that they were working in? What's the chances of you getting into a car wreck tomorrow? In the end, every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord. When I accepted Christ, the 1st thing I had to admit was that I was a sinner. That wasn't too hard for me. Each one of us knows that we come short of God's commandments - that's what they were given for - to show that you can't live up to them by yourself. I could go on preaching all night, but it really comes down to you making a choice. I'm glad I did. I hope you do. It will be the best thing you have done in your life - guaranteed!
